I’ve always been overweight. Ever since I was a kid, I have always liked food and hated exercising. Staying at home in front of the TV, playing console games, or at the computer always seemed much more fun than going out. I’ve never been able to match the other guys in sports because I could not run fast enough, so I used to keep clear of outdoor games. Because of this, I had few friends and I was always unhappy with my life. I hated school and all those who made fun of me, especially since I could not afford to talk back to boys who could easily hurt me.

As the years passed, I gained more and more weight and spent more and more time indoors. My girlfriend dumped me, probably for a better looking guy, and my friends didn’t like to come around to my place any more than I liked going to theirs. That’s when I started thinking about losing weight through dieting. Despite the loneliness and fear of facing other people, I still refused to admit that something might be wrong with me. Dieting sounded interesting, but the idea of denying myself good food was appalling. One might say that I lived for eating at that time. That’s probably why my early attempts at dieting were complete failures.

When I first read about ProShape RX on the Internet I thought “There’s no way a pill can curb the feeling of hunger. I was sure that the whole idea was a scam, but it had me thinking. The reason why I had always failed to stick to a diet was the strong feeling of hunger. So I figured that a pill that takes the hunger away could really help me. Later I saw the impressive list of signed testimonials featured on the ProShape RX website and I felt certain that ProShape RX could help me, too. I ordered my first supply of pills and it was a major turning point in my life. I knew that if I defeated my hunger I would really lose weight and I was right.

I have already lost a couple of pounds and I’m not going to quit. I’ve also started going to the gym and I feel ready to try my hand at socializing. I know that my socializing skills are practically zero, but I might as well start sooner than later. I have a long road before me, but I am committed and sure of myself. I think that overweight people should really consider letting ProShape RX help with the dreaded feeling of hunger. It certainly worked for me.

Atkins Diet - A Straight-up Review

Weight Loss & Diet Programs No Comments »

My husband and I went on the atkins diet several years ago. This is the first time my husband has done any dieting. I on the other hand have tried every diet know to mankind. Of course he dropped 10 pounds the first week, and could not understand why I am always saying that weight loss is difficult. I did lose 6 pounds the first week so I had to agree that the diet was working.

The first two weeks were difficult to get used to eating only low carbohydrate foods. Once we got past that two week mark we found that it was an easy diet for us to follow. On the atkins diet you eat mostly protein. My husband has always been a big meat eater so that part was easy. It was more difficult for him to give up the potatoes and bread that he ate along with his meat. We needed to find alternative foods that were allowed on the atkins diet.

I bought the atkins diet book which not only outlines the diet but also has recipes. It is amazing how you can eat a lot of food on the atkins diet and still lose weight. The main challenge is getting some variety into your meals. When we first started the atkins diet the dinner meal was very easy to prepare. We would have some type of protein, fish, animal protein, chicken or beef and a large leafy salad with bleu cheese dressing. This was not that different than what we ate before it was just minus the potato and bread.

After a few weeks the lack of variety started to bore us. We were both losing weight, so that helped keep us motivated, but we were getting tired of the same meal each night. Then I discovered some of the recipes in the back of the atkins diet book. Our favorite is mashed cauliflower. It is the same texture as mashed potatoes. The atkins diet book also had a recipe for a salad that has all the same ingredients as potato salad, minus the potatoes. You substitute cooked cauliflower. I was doubtful at first, but it tastes wonderful.

Over the years we have added carbohydrates back into out diet. Initially we both gained some of the weight back, but now we have found the right balance for each of us. Long term with very low carbohydrates did not fit our life style, or taste buds, but the atkins diet was an effective way for us to take off pounds.

Facts about Vitamin Nutritional Supplements

Health Related Articles No Comments »

Vitamins are a very important part of a healthy balanced diet. They are essential for speeding up chemical reactions in our body and are also needed to prevent certain diseases. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the main sources of nearly all kinds of vitamins. Eggs and milk also provide a lot of vitamins. However, when we don’t eat enough of these foods, it can cause vitamin deficiency within our body. This vitamin deficiency can be cured by taking a handful of multivitamin nutritional supplements. Vitamin supplements are important because other nutrients, such as minerals, work with the vitamins in the form of enzymes and coenzymes to help fight against certain diseases.

Insider Health Information

A few years ago people thought that eating a healthy diet was sufficient enough to keep an individual fit and healthy. However, recent research has shown that taking supplements is beneficial even for people that eat a healthy diet. This is because modern methods of farming reduce the overall quality of vegetables, add to this the amount of time the vegetables sit on the shelves and it’s no wonder that the amount of nutrients in these vegetables is reduced. It has been established that water-soluble vitamins, like B vitamins (B6, B12 and folic acid), and vitamin C are the ones that get absorbed by the bloodstream and often leave the body when we urinate. As a consequence, even healthy diets alone are not enough to keep these vitamins at a certain level in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle which is necessary to keep a person fit and healthy. There are no clear symptoms to detect vitamin deficiency in body. However, you can correct vitamin deficiency if your daily food intake does not conform with a prescribed healthy and balanced diet.

Although it’s very important to consult a diet professional before consuming any kind of vitamin or mineral food supplement, it’s also necessary that you do a little research of your own to find out how to choose a particular nutritional supplement product.

There are some precautions that you must consider before choosing which nutritional supplements you should take. First of all, you need to know that there’s nothing like a properly functioning and healthy body. Vitamin supplements are no comparison for natural foods, but if you think you need vitamin supplements, always put quality first. Don’t go for cheaper products merely because they are cheap. Expensive products are often the ones that contain natural substances which and nearly as effective for the body as natural food sources. Your body’s nutrition is very important; it is worth investing in.

Always choose supplements which use ingredients that have been suggested by renowned scientists and dietitians. A combination of Flavonoids and Phytochemicals, along with the necessary vitamins and minerals, is thought to provide a balanced supplement and is useful for improving the overall health of an individual. Green tea is an excellent source of Flavonoids. Just another thing that we can thank the Chinese for! If supplements have to be consumed, make sure they are made out of concentrated plant material.

One of the quality measures is to see if these vitamin products are coated with a colored or sugar coating to make them attractive. Don’t go for these types of products, since they probably don’t contain the essential substances that should be a part of any nutritional supplements. Good nutritional supplements are often composed of large tablets that smell of compressed plant-like material.

Always make sure that the company you are going to buy a vitamin supplement from is an authentic one and is either licensed or certified in providing health services. You can e-mail them or telephone them directly to ask some questions about their product. If they are accessible and provide satisfactory answers to your questions, you can consider buying their product. Your body is your temple, so when choosing supplements choose ones that you can trust!

This list of tips is by no means comprehensive, other tips and precautions must be considered before choosing the correct nutritional health supplement. Make sure that you buy a quality product that will prove to be useful for your body in the long run.

Analyzing Medifast Diet - A Personal Review

Weight Loss & Diet Programs No Comments »

Let me start off by giving you a little background about myself. I come from one of those homes where your parents always made you eat everything on your plate. So you can see the programming that was instilled since I was a young boy. I always used eating as a escape I guess from social problems. I was not the popular kid, and never really had a lot of friends because of my weight. Well it spiraled out of control which brings me to where I am right now. I am a 37 year old male, 5″ 7″ and weigh 247. On a recent check up from my doctor I was advised that I needed to loose weight. Now I am the person who had dabbled with different diets here and there, but I don’t think that I was ever really committed.

So from recommendations from my doctor I decided to go on the Medifast Program. The Medifast Diet is a low calorie diet, that is structured for you and takes the guess work out. It is a meal replacement program, where you have five Medifast meals and one Lean and Green meal per day. The lean and green meal can be 7 oz of turkey, chicken or fish, or 5 oz of lean beef pork or lamb, along with a green vegetable. The food choices keep you from being bored, you can have oatmeal, hot chocolate, cappuccino, or a shake for breakfast. For lunch there are soups, granola bars or shakes and for dinner you have your lean and green meal. The program is set up where you eat every 2 hours, so that helps to keep the hunger pains down.

Lose up to 20 lbs. in 30 days

For the most part the meals are very good, I did have a little problem with the soups, but after learning how to spice things up, and change the tastes of the meals, it became just like cooking at home. The great thing is I finally found something that has given me results. My doctor is happy with my progress and I am jumping for joy.

I have been on the program for four weeks now and have lost 16 pounds, my pants are getting loose and my motivation is through the roof. This program has helped me to get away from the eating as a crutch, it instills a life change and a new eating pattern that will stay with you long after you are off the diet. It is not expensive, coming out to about $10 a day. But I look at it like this, you cannot put a price on your health.

The diet is changing me not only from a physical perspective, but I can see that I will have social changes also, no longer will I be frightened of going out with friends or making new friends. It is a total life change for me. I still have a ways to go trying to meet a goal of 100 pounds, but I am well on my way.

This has been the easiest diet that I have ever tried, and I am very pleased with the results. I have also started a low impact exercise plan (walking) which I hope will expedite the weight loss.

If you are looking for a plan, where you don’t have to count calories or read labels then the Medifast Plan is a no brainer. There are several package options to meet with medical conditions, no matter what your situation is. I highly recommend this plan to anyone who is fed up and determined to loose weight and make a difference in their life.

How to Eat Healthier Food

Diet & Weight Loss Articles No Comments »

Many diet gurus will tell you to approach dieting from completely different angles. Some diets like the Atkins will recommend stay away from carbs whereas others will tell you that they are necessary. Long-term weight loss is only achieved by eating healthy foods. The following tips will help you achieve this.

One thing that is not often mentioned in diet books and weight loss programs is the normal shopping habits you have. The way grocery stores are normally set up is with the processed and junkie foods in the isles in the interior of the stores. Your solution is to shop around the perimeter and buy only the natural healthy foods such as fruit and vegetables. Go for fresh fish and poultry and only lean cuts of red meat if you must have it.

Life Extension Products

Something that people seem to have trouble accepting is to eat more often. Often skipping meals will slow down your metabolism and eating three big meals a day will make you feel bloated and even overfull. You should eat every three to four hours and eat meals only about the size of your open hand. This will allow your body to efficiently absorb the food and stop you feeling hungry between meals.

Eating natural fresh raw foods is the healthiest way to eat. You should try to avoid anything that is processed or packaged. For example eat fresh rather than packaged pre-prepared food. Raw foods are richer in vitamins and minerals that your body needs and lower in calories.

Experiment with a variety of spices and cooking methods to keep your meals from becoming boring. Being on a diet certainly doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy the flavor of your meals. One great way to add a different taste to your food is by grilling and even vegetables can be placed in foil and grilled. Try sliced squash and zucchini as a base, and Add some other tasty vegetables, sprinkle minced garlic, rosemary and thyme over them, wrap them in tin foil and place them on the grill. Yummy.

Keep an eye on your fat intake and don’t always take those reduce fat labels literally. Many reduced fat products are still way to high in fat content. The other thing that often happens with reduced fat content products is that they add sugars in its place to boost the flavor. This will add calories to the product and defeat your purpose in buying them. I also use soy or low fat or skim milk, which can help reduce your overall fat intake significantly.

The Problem with Speed Eating

Diet & Weight Loss Articles No Comments »

Have you ever noticed how fast some people can eat? While no one has ever actually inhaled food, it is surprising how fast some folks can make a meal disappear.

When Americans go out to eat, we usually order a drink and socialize while waiting to be seated. Some order another drink before the meal is served, but when the food comes out it is time to eat.

I lived on Okinawa, Japan for nearly 10 years, and one of the first things I noticed was how long it takes the locals to eat a meal. Compared to America, dinners seem to last forever!

Does speed of eating indirectly affect body weight? Perhaps. Some fast-paced styles of eating seem to be synonymous with weight gain. Gulping food in a hurry, eating on the run, binge eating when hungry, filling your mouth with food before finishing the last bite, and routinely piling large amounts of food on your plate are examples of eating habits that may lead to overindulgence and weight gain.

If you already carry a few extra pounds, you have another problem. While people of normal weight feel full after about 10 minutes of eating, researchers from the University of Florida found that it took nearly twice as long for that signal to reach the brain of subjects who were overweight. When your brain thinks you are still hungry, it is likely that you are not going to stop eating, no matter how much food you have already had.

If you find yourself the first one finished at every meal, you should make a conscious effort to slow down your eating! Practice lengthening the time it takes you to eat by timing your meals. Put your fork down between every bite. Chew thoroughly and swallow before putting more food in your mouth. Take your time, try to relax, and savor your food. Give your brain a chance to receive the message that your stomach is full. And DO NOT be afraid to leave food on your plate!

Research carried out at Penn State University has determined that the volume of food is more crucial than total calories when determining your feeling of fullness. This means that you will feel full while eating fewer calories if you fill up first on lower calorie high volume foods.

Baked potato is a perfect example of a low calorie, high volume food that also requires a long time to eat. Heavy foods that contain water such as fruit also make you feel full on fewer calories. Hot, full bodied soup is always an excellent pre dinner choice.

The hungrier you are, the faster you’ll eat. Use low calorie snacks during the day to keep that appetite in check.

If you have a tendency to eat fast and would like to lose weight, deliberately slowing down your eating at mealtime is a good first step. Allow yourself 20 minutes to finish a regular meal, but remember that the extra time isn’t a license for extra indulgence.

It may take some getting used to, but once you start eating slower you may find yourself feeling full before you are finished. And eating less!
